David L. Feldman, MD, is Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Hospitals Insurance Company, Inc. (HIC), and serves as Chief Medical Officer for FOJP Service Corporation as well. He joined HIC in 2011 and is responsible for its clinical risk management activities—working with clients on innovative programs to improve patient safety and quality of care.
Previously, David was vice president for patient safety, vice president of perioperative services, and vice chairman of the department of surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he implemented numerous patient safety and effectiveness initiatives. Among other innovations, he brought the use of radiofrequency technology to operating rooms as part of a strategy to reduce retained surgical items.
As past president of the Maimonides Medical Staff, David was instrumental in creating and implementing a hospital-wide Code of Mutual Respect, physician peer review committee, and other quality improvement efforts.
David is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), where he serves on the Committee on Perioperative Care, and is the vice chair of the ACS collaborative task force for the development of high-performance teams in surgery through education. Dr. Feldman is a Certified Trainer in Crucial Conversations and Crucial Confrontations. The Certifying Commission in Medical Management certifies him as a physician executive.
David received a BA and MD from Duke University. He also holds an MBA in management from New York University.
