Walter L. Harris

Walter L. Harris is President and CEO of Hospitals Insurance Company (HIC). He also serves as President and CEO of FOJP Service Corporation.

Mr. Harris is an insurance industry veteran with more than 30 years of insurance, legal, and tax experience. Immediately prior to joining HIC, Mr. Harris was a senior advisor to The Related Companies and was also vice chairman emeritus of Alliant Insurance Services, Inc., one of the largest insurance brokerage firms in the country. Mr. Harris was president and CEO of T&H Group (formerly known as Tanenbaum-Harber Co. Inc.), a company he joined in 1980 and subsequently built into one of the largest privately held property/casualty and benefit brokers in the United States, prior to its acquisition by Alliant in 2011. Before joining Tanenbaum-Harber, Mr. Harris was a tax attorney at a Wall Street law firm.

Mr. Harris is a member of the board of directors of Loews Corporation and serves as the chair of the Loews Audit Committee. He is a member of the board of directors of Metropolitan National Bank, a federally chartered bank in New York City, and serves on its audit committee. He also serves on the board of American Progressive Life and Health Insurance Company of New York. He previously served on the boards of CNA Financial Corporation, Universal American Financial Corporation, and New York Federal Savings Bank. Mr. Harris is a past president of the Insurance Brokers Association of New York.

Mr. Harris’s civic and nonprofit activities include serving as a trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the Citizens Budget Commission, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to influencing constructive change in the finances and services of the New York City and New York State governments, and serving on the board of directors of Summer on the Hill, a year-round enrichment program for academically talented, disadvantaged children in New York City. From November 1997 through November 2003, Mr. Harris was president of the board of the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds, which operates three day camp facilities in the New York metropolitan area.

Mr. Harris received a BA from Stanford University, a JD from the University of California at Berkeley, and an LLM in taxation from New York University School of Law.
